Dave’s Objectives for Dane County

WAUNAKEE TRAFFIC

I will work to preserve Main Street for our local businesses. We need to plan and implement a solution to our community’s growing traffic problem and take action reflecting the 2011 County Board resolution to work on Waunakee’s congestion. My construction experience in road work will help get the ball rolling on infrastructure improvements. The longer we wait, the more expensive and difficult any project will be.

SIX MILE CREEK

Working for several years with the Friends of Six Mile Creek, I have seen the benefits of improving the watershed firsthand. We can increase the budget for the Legacy Sediment Removal program to complete two sediment removal projects a year instead of one, which will help reduce flooding locally and improve the water quality in our lakes and streams.

RENEWABLE ENERGY/EFFICIENCY

I have been part of implementing efforts to use recent federal programs to aid businesses of all sizes to make improvements that help with energy efficiency. With the Dane County Office of Energy and Climate Change, we can bring awareness and assistance to businesses of these newer programs plus work to increase renewable energy projects in county government. Most businesses do not know how to access these programs. The businesses save money in their monthly energy bills, the community gains in cleaner air and water, and we all gain from lower energy demands.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING

We need to use the Affordable Housing Development Fund to assist local businesses with greater access to local workers and help our local workers have the housing they need. More geographic spread of that financial support across the county is crucial so communities like Waunakee have a better chance of receiving project funding.

TAXES

Keep the tax rate level to avoid spikes in property taxes. New growth in the community and Dane County should pay for increased needs from that growth such as snow plowing, acquiring more county park land, road maintenance, etc. - the same policy I supported as a member of the Waunakee Community School District Board.

Veterans’ Services

One of the best resources for local veterans is the Dane County Veterans’ Service Office. My experience and background has allowed me to see and help with strengthening the office’s support for our veterans. By serving on the County Board, I will be able to ensure that we are always maximizing the outreach and assistant the CVSO can give our veterans.
